Bring a Friend Day: Saturday

On
this day athletes are encouraged to bring friends who are not
members. The
friends take part in the normal Centre activities.
Participation athletes are eligible to win prizes
supplied by VLAA.
Region
Training Camp:
3rd
& 4th
October, 2007
Lady
Northcote Camp held at Bacchus Marsh for the U10 to U12 Boys
and Girls. This
Centre has a policy where the Centre contributes to the cost
of the camp.
Open
Days:
Little Athletic Centres throughout Victoria conduct
Open Days at which all registered athletes may compete.
Correct Club/Centre uniforms are to be worn to all Open
Days. For Open Day entry forms see the noticeboard in the
clubrooms.
Lap
for Kids :
Saturday
10th
November,
2007
A
statewide fundraiser to raise money for the Royal Children's
Hospital. A gold
coin donation to run or walk a lap.
All members are encouraged to participate.
Relay Championships Region: Sunday
18th
November, 2006
These
events are conducted prior to the Christmas break.
Teams from eligible children in Under 9-15 who would
like to compete, are selected from the entry forms that are to
be filled in and handed to your Club Team Manager prior to the
closing date (which is written on the entry form).
We endeavour to place all children completing the entry
form into a team. Any
athlete wishing to take part in relays, must make sure they
will be available to run at Region level and State level if
that team qualifies. Region
heats are held at
Landy Field, Geelong and State finals at
Olympic Park.
Centre
Disco: Saturday 16th December, 2006
The Centre
will hold a Disco for BMLAC members and family. The
evening will commence at 7.00 p.m. at a venue to be confirmed.
Multi Event:
Saturday
9th
February,
2008
Athletes
compete in five events gaining points in each event. (Using
VLAA Multi event points table)
All five events must be competed in to have completed
the
Multi Event. If one event is not competed in, that athlete
will be deemed ineligible to win any award.
Trophies are awarded to the winners of each age group
with medals for second and third.
Where
there is only one competitor in any event, the medal will be
forfeited if a reasonable performance is not given.
Region
Track & Field: 16th & 17th February, 2008
Athletes
from Under 9-15 will have the opportunity to compete at the
Region Track and Field to be held at Corio, Geelong.
Athletes may register in four events. Under 8 athletes
may also register as an invitational athlete. Athletes
will have the opportunity to progress through to State Track &
Field.
State
Multi Event Championships: Saturday
1st &
Sunday
2nd
March, 2008
Athletes
in Under 9-15 compete in 100m, 800m, 80mh, Long Jump and
Discus. This
event is VLAA State’s pentathlon to be held at
Albury.
Please see your Club Team Manager for entry forms and
more information.
State
Track & Field: 15th & 16th March, 2008
Under 9-15
athletes who have qualified/progressed from Region Track &
Field will compete at the State Track & Field Championships to
be held at Bendigo.
Centre Championships: Saturday
8th
March, 2008
Centre
Championships are contested on the final day of the season.
To be eligible for Centre Championships children must
compete in at least half the available meetings before
Christmas (from the time of registration with the Centre) and
half the available meetings after Christmas.
For Centre Championships, children must be registered
by December 31st.
This rule does not apply to children who transfer from
other A.L. Centres.
Centre
Championships will be conducted on the following format.
Maximum three track and two field or two track and
three field may be entered. Exception may be Under 13-15 when lack of numbers may
necessitate elimination of some events.
Executive for Championships to decide.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be presented to
place getters in finals of each event. Where there is only one
competitor in any event, the medal will be forfeited if a
reasonable performance is not given.
JUNIOR
DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
This
squad has been formed for all athletes in the U12 - U15 age
groups. The aim
of the squad is to continue to develop, assist, improve and
foster to athletes to achieve their personal best and to be
comparable with other Junior Interstate Athletic Squads or any
other junior sporting body.
Athletes
must
qualify in 1 event twice (at separate meets) or
2 separate events
once at
their Centre to be eligible for the Squad in all events except
the Multi Event, which requires achievement of the standard
once. For the
qualifying standard please refer to the back of
your handbook.
Athletes may qualify at Centre Open Days and or State
Track and Field (from the previous season) but please make
sure that an official from the Centre running the Open Day
signs your tickets. Athletes
must attend training days (TBA) to remain in the squad.
AUSTRALIAN TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIPS (ATC)
Each
year, the VLAA selects a 22 member Victorian team to compete
in the Australian Teams Championships.
Winners of gold medals in the Under 13 age group events
at the State Track and Field Championships, are generally
automatically selected on the Victorian team, however final
selection is by the team Management.
If more than 22 athletes win gold medals the
composition of the team is decided by the selectors.
