Special
Awards
The
Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre provides a number of
memorial and special awards to athletes within the Centre.
There are varying criteria for these awards and the
information below seeks to ensure that a degree of consistency
is maintained with respect to these special trophies
TROY
LORENSINI AWARD (Sportsmanship)
This
award was first presented at the conclusion of the 1996/97
season. The trophy is a perpetual trophy and is donated by
Annette Cosgrove in memory of her son, Troy Lorensini, who was
21 years old when he was tragically killed in an accident.
Troy had been a member of Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics
Centre and Eagles Club, beginning as an Under 6 and going
through to Under 15. He was the recipient of many club
trophies including Junior Boy Champion, Most Consistent, Most
Improved and Senior Boy Champion. He was awarded the Centre
Senior Boy Champion trophy in the 1988/89
season.
This
award is presented to acknowledge outstanding sportsmanship by
an athlete within our Centre. During the course of the season
officials are able to nominate athletes whom they believe have
displayed outstanding sportsmanship. Nomination forms will be
provided to officials as required. Towards the end of the
season these nominations will be forwarded to Mrs. Annette
Cosgrove (Troy’s mother) and also a Life Member of this
centre, or her nominee to select the winner of this award. The
award will then be presented on Championship Day.
JIM
LILBURNE AWARD (100m sprinter)
The
Lilburne Family requested that a perpetual trophy be presented
in memory of Jim who passed away in 1999.
Jim
enjoyed and excelled at a number of sports and was a great
sportsman, he played football for Maddingly football Club, was
a member of the CFA running team, a cyclist and a great runner
winning the Bacchus Marsh Gift in 1951.
He
was a member of the original committee in 1969 that was formed
following the decision to open a Little Athletics Centre in
Bacchus Marsh and he held the position of Technical
Requirements on that first committee. Things were different in
those days, as equipment was stored at the High School in
Maddingly and competition was at Darley Park, part of Jim’s
job was to transport that equipment back and forth on a
Saturday morning.
Jim served
Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre, Eagles Club, and
Western Metropolitan Region over a span of 27 years.
This
trophy has been presented to commemorate the contribution made
by Jim to help the children of Bacchus Marsh.
WAYNE
ARNOLD AWARD (High Jump)
The Wayne Arnold High Jump
Award is to be awarded to the athlete who performs best
against the centre record that exists for their age group
at centre
meetings finalising two weeks prior to Championship Day,
