VLAA State Cross Country Championships |
This weekend BMLAC traveled to Warragul to compete in the
State Cross Country Championships at Lardner Park.
Several families made the trek down on Saturday afternoon and
enjoyed the overnight stay at Warragul Caravan Park while
others opted to make the long drive down early Sunday morning.
The heavy rains on Saturday made for an extremely heavy track
at Lardner Park. This did not deter the Marsh kids from
once again producing some outstanding performances.
Special mention must go to our individual gold medallists Zoe
Osborn and Lucas Shugg. Most athletes would have frowned
upon the course layout, with the new course including 3 fairly
tough hill climbs, but not our Under 13 athlete Zoe Osborn,
who relishes the challenge of hills. Zoe sat comfortably
for the first 1500m then on the final hill pulled away to
record a resounding gold medal victory. Lucas Shugg
another fighter ran an impressive race in the Under 9 1500m
event, leading from start to finish, running an astonishing
5.26.89 minutes.

Bacchus Marsh picked up another 2 State
Medals with the Boys Under 9 consisting of Lucas Shugg, Jack
Lalor and Hayden Thompson taking out gold in the team event
while Anna Kelly, Demi Geary and Maddison Bertram claimed
bronze in the Girls Under 14 3km team event.

Our under 7 & 8 athletes competed in invitational races and
Andrew Amor, in his first taste of State competition, was
impressive finishing strongly to place 3rd in the Boys' Under
8 1km event.

X-Country final run & break-up |
Bacchus Marsh LAC held their final home Cross Country run for
the season at Mason's Lane, Bacchus Marsh. All races
where conducted on a handicap system resulting in many close
finishes. The theme for the day was Crazy Hair and it
was great to see the athletes, as well as parents, join in the
fun of the day. All families then came together at the
conclusion of the program for a BBQ lunch. Thanks to
those who supplied a salad or dessert and many thanks to
everyone who helped out with preparing lunch for the athletes,
parents and guests.
