The 2010/11 track & field season is not far away.
Registration days:
Friday 17th September - Ballan
Primary School Gymnasium 2.30-3.30pm
Friday 17th September - Mason's
Lane Reserve 5.00 to 7.00pm.
Saturday 18th September -
Mason's Lane Reserve 10.00am -12 noon.
The season will commence at
Mason's Lane Reserve, Bacchus Marsh on Saturday 2nd October
at 8.30am.
Fees - 1st Child $100, 2nd
Child $100, 3rd Child $85, 4th & subsequent Child/ren $60
New registrations must provide
proof of age (birth certificate) upon registering. All
re-registering athletes will be required to update their
details and have parental signatures on re-registering forms
which will be available.

Cross Country Presentation Day
The 2010 BMLAC Cross Country
Presentation Day was held at St Bernard's Hall on Sunday.
The season award winners were announced and presented with
trophies.

Australian
Cross Country Championships
Congratulations to Andrew Amor,
Courtney Scott, Laiton Sullivan and Mitchell Thompson who
represented Victoria at the Australian Cross Country
Championships in Brisbane last week. Courtney finished
9th overall, Andrew 23rd, Laiton 37th and Mitchell 50th.
Andrew was a member of the Victorian team who placed 3rd.
Courtney ran in the Victorian team relays on Monday
finishing 2nd while Laiton ran in a 2km time trial to
finish 2nd.

State
Cross Country Championships
Congratulations to all the
Bacchus Marsh athletes who competed at the State Cross
Country Championships today at Geelong. The athletes
battled strong winds in very cool conditions at the Geelong
Racecourse. The events commenced on the racing track
before heading out into the centre of the track to wind
around several dams. Although a heavy course, the
athletes enjoyed jumping over the hay bail obstacles before
heading back onto the front straight to the finish line.
Bacchus Marsh claimed 3
individual state medals and 3 team medals. Courtney
Scott finished 1st in the Girls Under 14 3km's, while
Mitchell Thompson ran strongly to claim silver in the Under
15 3km event. Lucas Shugg ran another superb race to
claim the silver medal in the Boys Under 11 2km's.
Bryce Stephenson competed in the Invitational Under 8 1km
event to finish very strongly to place 3rd. The Boys
Under 13's team consisting of Julian Bocock, Nicholas
Caulfield and Zachary Miesen claimed the bronze medal.
The Under 11 Boys team made up of Lucas Shugg, Jack Lalor
and Hayden Thompson were announced state champions for the
third consecutive year. Andrew Amor, Dominic Miesen,
Mason Dickson and Jye Stephenson took out the silver medal
in the Boys' Under 10 team event.

State
Cross Country Championships
 Next
Sunday 1st August the Little Athletics Victoria Cross
Country Championships will be held at Geelong Racecourse,
Breakwater. The first event is scheduled to commence
at 11am. The course will be available to walk between
9.15-10.15am only. Athletes must report to the BMLAC
team managers, Paul or Karen upon arrival. Athletes
are required to marshal 30 minutes prior to their event.
Full Centre uniform MUST be worn - BMLAC Singlet and plain
black shorts (no logos).
All families will be required
to complete a stint of duty at some stage during the day -
parents will be notified in the coming days of their duty
(via email).

Presentation Day
Families should have now
received their invitation to the 2010 BMLAC Cross Country
Presentation Day to be held on Sunday 29th August at 3pm at
St. Bernard's Parish Centre, Lerderderg Street, Bacchus
Marsh. Centre Champions will be announced and athletes
will be presented with awards. Please bring along a
plate of afternoon tea. Centre singlets must
be returned on this day.

Cross
Country Break-Up
Today BMLAC held their final
home Cross Country run for this season. The athletes
and rabbits dressed up in their Superhereos outfits and
enjoyed a run around the Calendonian Parklands. At the
completion of the races everyone joined together for a BBQ
lunch.
Many thanks to those who have
helped out with this season's Cross Country. Special
thanks to Trevor Denton, who marked out the courses each
week; our Cross Country Co-ordinators Karen Shugg and Paul
Miesen with assistance from Michael Roberts (Region & Open
Days). Thank you also to those who officiated weekly
with timekeeping, recording and rabbitting.

Cross Country Championships
Congratulations to Mitchell Thompson, Laiton Sullivan, Courtney Scott
and Andrew Amor who have been selected to represent Victoria
at the Australian Cross Country Championships to be held in
Brisbane on August 21. These athletes were selected
after fantastic results at the Victorian Secondary &
Primary Schools Cross Country Championships held at Bundoora
Park.

Metro Region
Cross Country Open Day
21 BMLAC athletes participated in today's Western Metro
Region Cross Country Open Day. The
athletes ran across the hills of the Eastern Gardens and
battled the cool windy conditions. Bacchus Marsh
claimed 10 Region medals.

Cross Country Championships
Entries have now closed for the 2010 State Cross Country
Championships.
No late entries will be accepted.
36 BMLAC athletes have registered to compete. The
Centre will be submitting team entries. The timetable
is now available (see link below) with the first event
scheduled to commence at 11am. The course will be
available to walk between 9.15-10.15am only. Athletes
must report to the BMLAC team manager at least an hour
before your event time. Athletes are required to
marshal 30 minutes prior to their event.

Cross Country @ Lake Dewar
Our most challenging course proved even more challenging
this week as the athletes were belted by the strong gale
force winds and driving rain while than ran across the
Pentland Hills landscape of Lake Dewar, Myrniong.
Please note a change to the Cross Country Calendar
- our final home run will now be held on Sunday 25th July at
Caledonian Park at 11am.
A sausage sizzle will be held with families to bring along
some finger food to share. The theme of this meet with
be Superheroes. All athletes (and mums, dads,
brothers, sisters, grandparents, friends) are encouraged to
dress up as their favourite superhero.

Cross Country @ Caledonian Park
The showers held off during the Cross Country races today
and we were lucky enough to even have the sun shining
through the threatening clouds at times. Athletes
wound their way around the Caledonian Parklands, through the
wet long grass along the Werribee River prior to weaving
back onto the walking path towards the finish line.
A reminder that Cross Country athletes should aim to arrive
in plenty of time to warm-up and walk the course, prior to
the first event commencing at 10.30am. Athletes will
not be permitted to race in other age-groups, so please
arrive early!

Cross Country @ Bostock Reservoir
The weather was extremely chilly at the Bostock Reservoir
this week. Our senior athletes ran a different course
for this venue, heading out over the water spillway prior to
heading up through the bushlands before returning to run an
out and back course through the pine plantations. Our
younger athletes competed on the original course along the
fire track through the pine plantations and across the top
of the Whipstick Valley.

Next week's Cross Country will be held at on Sunday at Caledonian Park,
Ballan commencing at 10.30am.
Directions: Take the first Ballan exit from the
Western Freeway and head towards the Ballan township.
Turn right at the third intersection (opposite St Paul's
Uniting Church) and follow to the end of the street.

WINS IGA Docket Competition
 
At the VLAA Gala Dinner last night BMLAC was announced winners
of the IGA Docket Competition and presented with a plaque
and a cheque for $3500. Dean Paulin, LA Vic General
Manager, also announced that Bacchus Marsh's docket total of
$3,301,627.68 was the highest amount for Australia.
Many thanks to all those families who participated in this
competition by placing their dockets in the boxes provided
at local IGA supermarkets in Darley and Ballan.
IGA implemented a new promotion in addition to its National
and State sponsorship, the IGA Little Athletics Docket
competition. There were 3 divisions (based on the
number of athletes per Centre) each offering $3500 for the
LA Centre who spent the most at IGA stores. The
competition commenced at the beginning of September 09 and
finished at the end of April 2010. At the end of each
month the IGA dockets were totaled and sent off to VLAA.
A HUGE thank you to Ross and Barb Bacon who spent hours and
hours each week totaling the Bacchus Marsh dockets.

Cross Country @ Peppertree Park
Today we returned to Peppertree Park for our weekly cross
country meet. The athletes enjoyed the winding track
through the Park and although we encountered a few passing
showers this did not deter our athletes from some recording
some quick times.

Bacchus Marsh Cross Country athletes returned from another
fantastic weekend at the Benalla Open Day. Along with
the 20 medals our athletes won, Bacchus Marsh was also
declared the winners of the Benalla Cross Country perpetual
trophy for the 6th consecutive year.

Bacchus Marsh Cross Country runners today competed at the
annual Geelong Cross Country event. The undulating
course wound it's way through the Eastern Gardens.
BMLAC claimed 10 medals - Gold - Claire Byrnes

(U14), Mitchell Thompson (U15); Silver - Solomon Miesen

Athletics Representative Incentive
At our previous General Meeting a motion was moved to
withdraw the $100 incentive for registered BMLAC athletes
who gain selection to compete in a National athletic event.
A new motion was passed that athletes will only be able to
apply for the $100 incentive payment from BMLAC if selected
to compete at Nationals in the U13 Track & Field Little
Athletics State team or the U15 Multi Event Little Athletics
State team.

Cross Country Open Day
- Sunday 6th June
 Next
Sunday 6th June, BMLAC will be sending a contingent of
athletes to contest the annual Geelong Cross Country Open
Day to be held at the Eastern Gardens, Geelong. BMLAC
athletes should have registered to compete at this event
with Karen. Athletes will be required to confirm their
registration upon arrival at the rotunda, prior to walking
the course as a group at 11am. The first event will be
at 11.30am.

Benalla
Cross Country Open Day
- Sunday 13th June
 Bacchus
Marsh will also be sending a contingent of athletes to the
Benalla Cross Country Open Day at Reef Hill Reserve, Benalla
on Sunday 13th June. The first event is scheduled to
commence at 11am, although it is highly recommended that
athletes arrive an hour before to allow plenty of time to
walk the course. A BMLAC convoy will depart from the
Leisure Park to Reef Hill Reserve.
If you have booked one of the cabins for the long weekend
please make sure you contact Benalla Leisure Park (ph. 5762
3434) by June 1st to finalise your booking. We will be
sending a bulk entry form for all athletes (including
parents), please let Karen know if you are intending to
compete.

Country @ Peppertree Park
Peppertree Park, Bacchus Marsh was the venue for this week's
Cross Country meet. What is commonly known as a fast
course for our athletes, proved to be at times challenging
with extremely slippery conditions due to the overnight
rain. Athletes were forced to approach the bends with
caution and the muddy conditions around the course saw our
athletes return to the finish line wearing much of the mud
up their back and legs.

The
2010 IGA State Cross Country Championships are being held on
Sunday 1st August at the Geelong Racecourse, Breakwater
Road, Breakwater.
Entries are now open via the Little Athletics Victoria
website. Please note payment must be made online using
a credit-card at the time of entry.
Entry Fee
- $5 individual Championship Event (Under 9-15), $2 per
Individual Invitational Event (Under 7-8). Team

Country @ Caledonian Park
The early morning frost quickly cleared up as the sun began
to shine and made for a beautiful morning for running.
This week 57 athletes enjoyed the run along the Werribee
River and around the new tracks at Caledonian Park.

Sandown Relays
Little Athletics Victoria in conjunction with Athletics
Victoria are conducting the ‘Sandown Relays’ at the Sandown
raceway on Saturday 28th August, 2010.
This event will include athletes from both organisations in
relay events (3 per team for Little Athletes). These team
will compete on the main straight and through pit lane with
the U13-U15 athletes running a circuit.
Sashes will be presented to all placegetters on the day and
this is a great opportunity to see some of Victoria’s and
Australia’s best distance runners in action.
Entry is now available via the website and the cost is $15
per team. Entries close on Monday 23rd August.
Athletes may be promoted up to any higher age group as
necessary to form a team, however all athletes must be from
the same Centre.

Athletics Victoria State Championships
The Board of Management has decided to change the calendar
for State Championship events in 2010/11 in an effort to
address some of the requests from Centres, and also to try
and inject more competitors into the State Multi event being
the first major championship of the year.
There has also been feedback that it is too hard to put
relay teams on the track in November (Regions), therefore
this allows an extra month along with an effort to ensure
greater participation of athletes after the Christmas break.
Based on this, the following dates and venues have been
booked for the season ahead;

Open Day
Today we conducted our 5th annual Cross Country day at
Bullengarook Reserve in perfect conditions. 114
athletes enjoyed the day's competition with 8 new records
set. Congratulations to the Geelong LAC who won
the perpetual trophy. Many thanks to those athletes
who traveled from afar to participate in the events. We had
athletes compete from the following Centres: Ararat, Bacchus
Marsh, Croydon,
Essendon, Geelong, Sunbury, Werribee, Williamstown. A
big thank you to those parents who helped out on the day;
the rabbits & turtles, course marshals, recorders, canteen
staff, raffle ticket sellers, announcers, timekeepers - your
assistance was very much appreciated.

Country @ Lake Dewar
At our Cross Country meet this weekend we had a few special
spectators who kept their eye on the children as they ran
through the bushlands of Lake Dewar. Many thanks to

Country @ Lake Dewar
This week's Centre Cross Country event was held at one of
our more challenging courses, Lake Dewar, Myrniong.
Unfortunately our numbers were a little low this week but
hopefully we will have a strong turn out from our Centre at
the BMLAC Cross Country Open Day next Sunday. Reminder
that entries close for this event this Monday 10th May.
